PM Kisan Yojana: This update is coming for crores of farmers across the country. If you’re waiting for the annual installment of ₹6,000 under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana but don’t have a Farmer ID, you may face obstacles in availing the benefits of many government schemes.

The central government has now made Farmer ID mandatory. Without this digital ID, not only could the PM Kisan Yojana be halted, but benefits from other schemes like fertilizers, seeds, and crop insurance could also be halted. In today’s article, we’ll explore how to create a Farmer ID online for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Yojana).
In India, the government runs a variety of schemes for farmers, many of which are farmer-centric, providing financial benefits to crores of farmers. We’re talking about the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, under which farmers are provided financial assistance of ₹6,000 in three installments each year. The government has now made Farmer ID mandatory to avail the benefits of government schemes including Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Yojana).
What is the PM Kisan Yojana?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, also known as the PM Kisan Yojana, is a flagship central government scheme under which eligible farmers are annually paid ₹6,000 in three equal installments (₹2,000 each) directly into their bank accounts. Launched in December 2018, the scheme primarily aims to increase farmers’ income and meet their agricultural needs.
By 2025, the scheme has benefited millions of farmers. According to official data, more than 97.1 million farmers have benefited from the scheme during the April-July 2025-26 period. The scheme is managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and fully funded by the central government.
However, farmers should note that e-KYC will not be completed without an ID, which will result in the payment of installments. If they haven’t created their Farmer ID in time, they can easily create one online, the process of which we will explain below.
What is Farmer ID and Why is it Important?

Currently, the central government is digitally identifying farmers across the country under the Agri Stack project. This Farmer ID is a digital identity for farmers. To avail the benefits of the PM Kisan Yojana, every farmer will need a Farmer ID. Farmers in many states are now making Farmer ID mandatory for their new applications.
Farmer ID is an 11-digit unique digital number that serves as an accurate and secure identification of the farmer. The reason for introducing this Farmer ID is to ensure that the government can directly distribute the benefits of the scheme to the right beneficiaries and to ensure that installments do not fall into the wrong hands.
If a farmer does not have a Farmer ID, then the installment of government schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi may be stopped. After this, if the installment of PM Kisan Yojana is required, then it may be difficult for the farmers to get the benefits of other government schemes including fertilizer, seeds, crop insurance etc.
